ISHEID

International Symposium HIV And Emerging Infectious Diseases or ISHEID welcomes the world to participate in the AIDS 2012 conference that will be held Marseille, France from 23rd May to 25th May 2012. Many eminent scientists, doctors and researchers from all over the world will take part in AIDS 2012 conference program.

Even after so many years of research the disease is still considered as a deadly disease. Now the question is how a person will know that he is HIV infected. HIV symptoms are very similar to the symptoms of other illnesses. Subsequently the only way to know for sure whether a person is infected with HIV is for them to have an HIV test from a proper place. People living with HIV may feel and look fully well but their immune systems may on the other hand be damaged. It is important to remember that once someone is infected with HIV they can pass the virus on immediately, even if they feel healthy. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. If a person infected with HIV does not take effective treatment then over the period of time HIV will weaken their immune system, which will make them much more susceptible to different types of infections.

Opportunistic infections are the infections which are caused by the germs that are there all the time around you. A healthy immune system can fight with these germs but it is very difficult for a weak immune system to fight with these infections. Not only AIDS but there are some cancers which also develop due to weak immune system. For a number of years, quite a lot of drugs have become available to fight the HIV infection plus its associated infections and cancers. These drugs are called highly active antiretroviral therapy and have substantially reduced complications and death related to HIV. Still there is no definite cure for HIV or AIDS. Therapy is initiated as per the requirement of the individual under the supervision of an expert physician who has much knowledge about how to treat the HIV-infected patient. Generally a combination of at least three drugs is prescribed to suppress the virus from replicating and boost the immune system. The treatments that are recommended are Reverse transcriptase inhibitors, Nucleoside or nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors and non nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors.

Pregnant women who are diagnosed as HIV-positive should seek medical help immediately because HAART therapy reduces the risk of transmitting the virus to the fetus. But there are certain drugs which are harmful to the baby. Therefore seeing a physician is much needed. If you want to learn more about HIV or AIDS then you can visit the website of ISHEID.
